Georgian folklore is rich in legends, myths, epic songs, sayings, fairy tales, curse- and request formulations, oaths, fables and riddles. Their authors are unknown.
The most famous Georgian myth is the myth of Amirani (ამირანი), with its strong similarities to the Greek Prometheus sagas.
The fairy tales of this period exhibit partly original elements and partly elements taken from literatures of other peoples. Figures of this period are Chutkuntshula, the ass bearer Nazarkekia (ნაცარქექია) or the half-hen Nakhevarqatama (ნახევარქათამა).
The development of alphabets in the 5. century A.C. marks the beginning of the Early Feudal Period in Georgian literature.
