მიირთმევს

მიირთმევს - to help oneself to a serving // sich an etwas bedienen (Speise)

This is one of the first words you will come across in Georgia. When dining at a table, hosts will ask you to take the food and start eating: გემრიელად მიირთვით! or just short გემრიელად! Most often the food is presented in the middle of the table and everybody takes what they like to eat. Therefore, the English Help yourself! is closer to the original than the German Guten Appetit!

Class-I verb on -ევ and unusual -ი/-ა aorist: რას მიირთმევთ? - what would you like to eat? // Was belieben Sie zu speisen? გემრიელად მიირთვით! (aorist imperative) Help yourself! Bon appetit!// Guten Appetit!

Similar:

  • მიართმევს 1. to offer something to somebody 2. to give something to somebody
  • ამებს 1. to enjoy something, to savor a taste 2. to make someone happy: გაამოთ! or გაამოს! Enjoy! Bon appetit!
