მოუდის

მოუდის - something is happening to somebody// etwas passiert jemandem

The word მოუდის usually refers to some kind of movement towards or in relation to an indirect object. It can be difficult to find in the dictionary because it is derived from სვლა. Therefore the conjugation is somewhat similar to the one of the verb მიდის/სვლა, but it is most often used in the 3rd person singular, e.g. in the sense of something is happening to something else.

Similar:

  • მოხდება - something is happening, occurring
  • გამოუდის 1. to turn out well for someone 2. something is coming out of something (blood from an animal) 3. something is growing out of something (gall from a plant) // 1. etwas geht gut aus für jemanden; jemand gelingt etwas 2. etwas kommt wo raus (Blut aus einem Tier) 3. etwas wächst wo raus (Galle aus einer Pflanze). Examples: არაფერი გამოგივა! - Nothing will turn out well for you! // Nichts wird dir gut gelingen!
  • საქმე წაუდის მას - to turn out for someone // ausgehen für jemanden. ცუდად წამივა საქმე - this will turn out bad for me // das wird schlecht ausgehen für mich.

Tschenkeli (2007) distinguishes between the class-I relative medial verb მოუდის – somebody is coming back for someone (page 1227) and the class-III impersonal verb მოუდის (page 1233). For the latter, a number of colloquial phrases exist, relating to something happening to someone.

In addition to these two forms, some modes and tenses of the verb მოსდის – somebody comes to somebody (page 1227) are identical to the ones for მოუდის.

Present Indicative:

ქართული English German
მე მომიდის რაღაცა something is happening to me mir passiert etwas
შენ მოგიდის რაღაცა something is happening to you dir passiert etwas
მას მოუდის რაღაცა something is happening to him ihm passiert etwas
ჩვენ მოგვიდის რაღაცა something is happening to us uns passiert etwas
თქვენ მოგიდით რაღაცა something is happening to you are euch passiert etwas
მათ მოუდის რაღაცა something is happening to them ihnen passiert etwas

Theoretically, if more than one thing is happening to somebody, one would use მას მოუდიან რაღაცეები, but მოუდის is almost always used in singular.

Future Indicative:

ქართული English German
მე მომიხვალ რაღაცა something is going to happen to me etwas wird mir passieren
შენ მოგიხვალ რაღაცა something is going to happen to you etwas wird dir passieren
მას მოუვა რაღაცა
მას მოუვალს რაღაცა

თქვენ მოგიხვალთ რაღაცა something is going to happen to you etwas wird euch passieren
მათ მოუვა რაღაცა something is going to happen to them etwas wird ihnen passieren

Again, plural objects happening to somebody would be რაღაცეები მოუვლენ მას - some things are going to happen to him. But this form is only rarely used.
